Three casino projects in downstate New York have finally received licenses nearly three years after the application process began. The New York State Gaming Commission confirmed on Monday that each finalist succeeded with their proposals.
Hard Rock Metropolitan Park, Bally’s Bronx, and Resorts World New York City can now advance their development plans.
Governor Kathy Hochul welcomed the decision, stating that the projects will create numerous jobs and provide significant funding for public infrastructure enhancements. She highlighted the commitments made by the applicants to their communities. State Gaming Commission Chair Brian O’Dwyer mentioned that oversight will be vigilant.
Resorts World New York City will be the first to offer expanded gambling options, as it transitions from a slot parlor to include table games like blackjack and roulette next spring during its renovation and expansion. The other two casinos plan to open by 2030.
Some protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision by shouting, “You picked a billionaire over New Yorkers! Shame on you!” before leaving the meeting.
