The Milwaukee Bucks are currently missing star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo due to a calf strain he sustained last week.
Initially, it was thought that the two-time MVP would be sidelined for four to six weeks after an MRI last Friday revealed a strain in his right calf or soleus. However, head coach Doc Rivers stated that there’s no set timetable for his return.
“There’s really no timetable,” Rivers said.
Antetokounmpo attempted to play through the injury but quickly realized it would cause him to miss considerable time.
“I felt like I couldn’t explode,” Antetokounmpo commented following Friday’s 102-100 defeat to the Denver Nuggets. “I could jog. I couldn’t get on my toes, so I was kind of jogging on my heel the majority of the game. I didn’t have the same explosiveness, but I still felt like I could help. At the end, when it popped, I had to get out. I couldn’t walk.”
This season has been marred by injuries for Antetokounmpo, who missed eight games last month due to a right calf strain. Such injuries have been frequent in recent years, causing him to miss the 2024 playoffs and the 2025 All-Star Game due to left calf strains.
When in form, he excels, averaging a double-double with 28.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, along with 5.6 assists, while shooting 64.5 percent from the floor and a career-best 39.5 percent from three-point range in 30 games.
