DFB dismisses request to take a stand against the US
‘Our aim is to enhance this influence – not to hinder it’
Germany’s football federation, the DFB, has decided against boycotting the World Cup despite appeals to send a message to Donald Trump. “We have faith in the unifying power of sport and the worldwide impact that a Fifa World Cup can create,” the DFB stated. “Our aim is to enhance this positive influence – not to hinder it.”
The federation reported that its executive committee convened and deliberated the possibility of a boycott of this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, a suggestion initially made last week by the DFB vice-president, Oke Göttlich.
