Friday's football tips: Partick look good at 6/4 in the handicap on the road at Edinburgh City

The new Scottish season kicks off tonight as Partick Thistle head to the capital to take on Edinburgh City in the League Cup group stage.

The Jags missed out on promotion to the Premiership last term in the play-offs as they finished the season under co-bosses Brian Graham and Mark Wilson after Kris Doolan’s sacking.

Wilson was handed the job on his own in the summer before veteran striker Graham moved on to Falkirk so it will be interesting to see how Thistle shape up.

Edinburgh City ended the League Two campaign well, finishing third before also losing out in the play-offs, so this is a potential banana skin for Wilson.

Replacing Graham’s steady supply of goals is the biggest task for Wilson to address and he has moved to sign Tony Watt, a player with plenty of Premiership experience.

It will be interesting to see if the former Celtic, Motherwell and Dundee United striker starts this one as he only signed on Wednesday and won’t have trained much with his new team-mates.

That doesn’t matter much from a punter’s point of view anyway as the bookies always treat the League Cup groups with disdain and don’t offer any scorer prices.

The Jags should get a boost from Watt’s arrival though and still have the core of last season’s squad intact so they look worthy 8/15 favourites. Backing them at -1 in the handicap boosts the odds to 6/4 at BoyleSports.

It could take both teams time to blow off the cobwebs a bit so try backing most goals to come after the break at 21/20 with Bet365.

Spain Women vs Italy Women

Spain have been turning on the style at the women’s Euros and armchair fans will be tuning in for more goals tonight as they take on Italy in their final Group B game.

The world champions have underlined why they’re favourites to take England’s European crown by smashing home 11 goals in their first two games against Portugal and Belgium.

They’re already assured a place in the last 16 and Italy would have joined them in the knockout stages had they not conceded a late leveller against the Portuguese.

Portugal need to beat the Belgians and hope Spain defeat Italy, with a six-goal swing into the bargain, if they’re to pip the Azzurri to a place in the last 16.

So I’d imagine the Italians might try to keep the score down in this one, sitting back to frustrate the group leaders. That could see the corner count rack up and Spain -4 in the corner handicap looks good at 11/10 with Unibet.

The Spanish may rest a few players with a place in the last 16 assured and back-up striker Cristina Martin-Prieto could get a start. She’s 6/5 with BoyleSports for anytime scorer.

Bohemians vs Galway United

Bohemians badly need a win in the League of Ireland Premier tonight after back-to-back draws saw them fall 11 points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers.

The Dublin side still have two games in hand so all hope is not yet lost and they should claw back three points tonight at home to struggling Galway.

United sit down in seventh place after winning just one of their last six so it’s no surprise to see them as 7/2 outsiders tonight.

Bohemians are just 8/13 for the win but adding over 1.5 goals to that bet boosts the odds to evens at BoyleSports.

BTTS has landed in three of their last four meetings so it could also pay to combine that with over 2.5 goals at 13/10.
