Resorts World Las Vegas, a leading property in Las Vegas, has announced significant leadership changes. Jim Murren will transition to the role of chairman emeritus, while former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval is appointed as the new chair.
The Property Named Nevada’s Former Governor as Chair
Jim Murren, the outgoing chair, will become chair emeritus, with Sandoval stepping into the former position. This move follows roughly a year after Murren became chair of the new board. Murren, who has significantly contributed to MGM Resorts’ growth, was recently appointed as interim CEO of the United Arab Emirates’ General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority following Kevin Mullally’s departure.
Brian Sandoval, assuming the chair role, will lead the board of directors at Resorts World Las Vegas. Sandoval, who joined as a board member in February, has been recognized for his visionary leadership, expected to propel the property to new heights. He served as Nevada’s 29th governor (2011-2019) and was the first Hispanic to be elected as the state’s head. His gaming industry experience includes three years on the Nevada Gaming Commission (1999-2001). Sandoval is currently the 17th President of the University of Nevada, Reno.
A Case Against Resorts World Was Just Revived
Moreover, an appeals court has sent a high-profile lawsuit against Resorts World Las Vegas back to the US District Court for review. The case involves Robert “R.J.” Cipriani, who claims that the property allowed another player, Robert Alexander, to harass him on the casino floor. The timing for the case’s rehearing is yet to be set.
In September, Resorts World Las Vegas strengthened its team by appointing Lou Dorn as chief legal officer and corporate secretary and Elizabeth Tranchina as general counsel. These legal experts are expected to help the property manage legal challenges.
