The EFL resumes tonight and Luton Town aims to make an impact in their League One opener against AFC Wimbledon.
The Hatters have endured a challenging few years, with consecutive relegations following their ascent to the Premier League.
They now face an AFC Wimbledon team buoyed by promotion from League Two, making it intriguing to see if Luton can stop their decline.
Luton Town vs AFC Wimbledon top betting tips
Last season, two divisions separated these teams. BoyleSports lists Luton Town as 4/9 favorites, with AFC Wimbledon at 5/1 and a draw at 16/5.
Despite relegation, the Hatters ended last season on a high, losing only one of their final 10 matches. They won three of the last four, and manager Matt Bloomfield is optimistic about their revival.
Playing at home should be an advantage, and betting on Luton to lead at half-time and full-time increases the odds to 13/10.
The tight pitch at Kenilworth Road often results in many corners. Town had 18 corners in their last home game, partly due to a Coventry red card.
I suggest betting on over 10 corners at evens with Bet365, while the same company offers over five first-half corners at 6/4.
Arbroath vs Ayr United
The new SPFL season also kicks off tonight with a Championship game between Arbroath and Ayr United at Gayfield.
The Honest Men aim for another promotion challenge after falling short in last season’s play-offs.
Scott Brown’s team impressed in the League Cup groups, qualifying for the last 16 as a top runner-up.
Arbroath, promoted from League One, must rely on home form to avoid a swift return to the third tier. They drew with Premiership side St Mirren in the League Cup, but I expect Ayr to triumph tonight.
BoyleSports favors them at 5/6, with an 11/8 odds boost if over 1.5 goals are added.
Ayr striker George Oakley scored five times in the League Cup group stage and is a good bet at 7/5 with Bet365 to score tonight.
Mechelen vs Club Brugge
Club Brugge began the Belgian season strong with a win over rivals Genk and aims for another victory at Mechelen tonight.
Mechelen, finishing eighth last season, drew against promoted Zulte Waregem in their opener. It’s unlikely they will upset Brugge, with BoyleSports putting them at 3/1 as underdogs.
Club Brugge is priced at 8/13 for a win, with odds improving to 10/11 if over 1.5 goals are included by BoyleSports.
For player markets, Brugge’s Hans Vanaken is worth considering at 13/5 with Bet365 for an anytime goal.
