Despite opposition from the Premier League, a step towards establishing a regulator aimed at safeguarding the sport has been achieved. The notion of an independent regulator originated from the fallout of the failed European Super League, intending to curb the national game’s shift towards private greed, corporate dominance, and detachment from local communities. Years later, this vision is close to becoming law. The House of Commons voted 415 to 98 on the football governance bill, suggesting a resolution with royal assent may occur shortly. Although the overwhelming support might suggest inevitability, seasoned political observers remain cautious until the conclusion. Nonetheless, it appears we are nearing the end.
