FanDuel Group, a leader in sports betting, has expanded its leadership team by hiring two seasoned public policy experts. Shailagh Murray joins as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Jonathan Nabavi as Vice President of Federal Affairs. These appointments align with significant regulatory changes affecting online gaming and sports betting in the U.S.
Murray brings extensive experience in communications, public affairs, and government policy. Before FanDuel, she was Executive Vice President of Public Affairs at Columbia University. She also held senior roles in the Obama administration, serving as a Senior Advisor to the President and as Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director for Vice President Joe Biden. Her journalism career included reporting for The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, covering significant global and legislative events.
Nabavi transitions to FanDuel from the National Football League (NFL), where he led legislative strategy and regulatory relations, focusing on sports betting policy. Prior to the NFL, Nabavi held advisory roles in Congress, working as Majority Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee and as Counsel for the House Oversight Committee.
These strategic hires reflect FanDuel’s proactive approach to navigating evolving regulations. Christian Genetski, FanDuel’s president, highlighted the importance of engaging in policy discussions for the long-term development of the online gaming industry. He emphasized the expertise Murray and Nabavi bring in addressing complex policy challenges collaboratively and their suitability to guide the industry towards responsible and sustainable growth.
FanDuel’s policy team expansion comes amidst significant changes in sports betting, including new challenges like tax write-off modifications and increased attention on daily fantasy sports. FanDuel has introduced new fees in regions such as Illinois to offset rising costs.
Owned by Flutter Entertainment, FanDuel serves approximately 17 million customers across all 50 U.S. states, offering sports betting, online casino games, horse racing, and fantasy sports.
