Fresh off his standout performance for Crystal Palace in their 3-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Aston Villa at Wembley, Eberechi Eze has added another accolade to his resume—this time, off the football pitch.
The 26-year-old England midfielder claimed victory in Chess.com’s PogChamps tournament, an online chess competition featuring celebrities, athletes, and popular internet personalities. The four-day event brought together 12 amateur players from various backgrounds, with Eze emerging as the overall champion after defeating American YouTuber Sapnap in the final.
Eze credited his chess success in part to his club teammate Michael Olise, who introduced him to the game during training sessions at the Palace training ground. What began as a casual pastime quickly developed into a serious hobby for Eze, culminating in his latest triumph on the digital chessboard.
