The 2025 European Women’s Championship has come down to Spain, the pretournament favorite, and the defending champion England. The two teams will compete at 12 pm ET on Sunday at St Jakob-Park in Basel, Switzerland, for the championship.

Despite England’s recent success against Spain, the odds heavily favor Spain to add a European title to their trophy collection, which already includes the recent World Cup (2023) and Nations League (2024).

Spain started as a -134 favorite and is now at -138 to win in 90 minutes. England’s odds have shifted from +333 to +350, with a draw still at +280. The adjusted odds give Spain a 54.4% chance to win in regular time, compared to England’s 20.9% and a draw at 24.7%. The over/under is set at 2.5 goals, with the over slightly favored at -118.

Only one of the last six encounters between England and Spain went over 2.5 goals in the first 90 minutes, and it was their latest match: a 2-1 win for Spain in Catalonia during Nations League play on June 3rd.

Though both England and Spain were favorites in the semifinals, they each required extra time to advance. England tied 1-1 with Italy as -175 favorites, needing an equalizer from 19-year-old Michelle Agyemang in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time to force extra time. Chloe Kelly scored the winner with one minute left in extra time, scoring on her own rebound off a missed penalty.

Overall, it was an unconvincing performance from England against an Italian team they were expected to dominate.

Spain was held to a goalless draw by Germany in the first 90 minutes. However, the Germans were fortunate to force extra time, as Spain generated 1.58 xGF compared to Germany’s 0.74 xGF. Aitana Bonmati, a back-to-back Ballon d’Or winner, scored a brilliant winner with seven minutes left in extra time, securing a deserved win over the #3-ranked team in the world.

The main injury concern for England is forward Lauren James, who left the semifinal at halftime with an ankle injury. She practiced fully on Saturday, but it might be safer for manager Sarina Wiegman to start Chloe Kelly instead. Kelly has appeared as a substitute in all five Euro games so far, scoring one goal and one assist.
