With ‘the pressure of the haircut’ entering football terminology, the focus on winning and losing seems to be waning.
“I don’t care about his haircut at all,” Matheus Cunha remarked this week. “I don’t really look at other people if they need to go to the hairdresser or not,” Bruno Fernandes noted over the weekend. Michael Carrick acknowledged the haircut issue but assured it wouldn’t influence his team’s preparation for their match against West Ham on Tuesday night.
Here we are. Many football games are remembered for reasons beyond their initial importance: the 1914 Christmas Truce, the 1962 Battle of Santiago, the 2020 pandemic curtain-raiser between Liverpool and Atlético Madrid.
