DigiPlus Interactive Corp. is set to enter South Africa’s thriving online gambling market, marking another milestone in its global expansion strategy. Known for its ArenaPlus and BingoPlus platforms, the Philippines-based company has announced plans to seek regulatory approval from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB), favored by many for its clear regulations and advanced digital infrastructure.
Targeting Three Licenses in Africa’s Leading Market
According to reports, DigiPlus will expand into South Africa shortly after announcing its launch in Brazil in September 2025. Chairman Eusebio Tanco describes this as part of a strategic focus on emerging digital markets. Tanco emphasizes the importance of South Africa as a key digital gateway in Africa.
To operate there, DigiPlus will seek three specific licenses: a National Manufacturer License, a Bookmaker License, and a Bookmaker Premises License. The company also plans to obtain licenses for key personnel to ensure effective leadership and compliance.
Following South African regulations, DigiPlus is creating a local legal entity, allowing foreign ownership and management per WCGRB guidelines. The application process is anticipated to last at least six months, involving comprehensive evaluations and testing by the board.
DigiPlus is committed to local integration, focusing on responsible innovation, cultural relevance, and community engagement. Tanco states, “As we expand from Southeast Asia to Latin America and now Africa, we remain committed to responsible innovation, local compliance, and developing products that connect deeply with culture and community.”
South Africa’s Booming Gambling Market
Valued at over R28.97 billion (approximately $1.6 billion USD) with projections for 5% annual growth, South Africa’s online betting market is ripe for operators who can meet regulatory and technological demands. Factors like high mobile penetration and increasing digital engagement have positioned the country as Africa’s leading online gambling hub.
DigiPlus sees the pending Remote Gambling Bill as a significant opportunity. If enacted, it will broaden the legal scope of online gambling in South Africa to include casino gaming, providing more opportunities for international entrants.
Challenges at Home
This expansion occurs amid growing regulatory challenges in the Philippines, where a proposed online gambling ban threatens the local gaming sector. DigiPlus has experienced a downturn in stock performance amid this uncertainty. However, Tanco remains optimistic, reassuring shareholders that “the best years are yet to come.”
“This will mark our third major market after the Philippines and Brazil, and we’re approaching it with careful strategy. South Africa is just the beginning,” Tanco added.
