Dallas will have Dak Prescott back on the field after an injury-riddled 2024 season while the Eagles look to impress at the start of their title defense. Key Storylines
- Philadelphia enters the opener as Super Bowl champions with a roster built to make explosive plays on offense. Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts were great together in their first season and will look to build on that in Week 1 of the 2025 season.
- Dallas is back to having Dak Prescott under center after losing him for most of last year. The Cowboys should look a lot better offensive with Prescott on the field. But there will be questions about how long Prescott stays on the field after injuries have derailed him in recent years.
Quarterback Play
Jalen Hurts remains the engine for Philadelphia and is the team’s focal point both through the air and in short-yardage rushing situations. His ability to extend drives and finish red zone possessions is a major advantage for the home team. Having all of the skill position weapons that he does certainly doesn’t hurt either.
Dak Prescott returns as the Dallas signal caller and will be asked to carry the offense through the passing game. Prescott’s timing with new skill personnel will be important early in the season. Dallas needs a clean pocket and protection to give Prescott time to operate and to keep him healthy. Dallas will hope that adding Javonte Williams at running back makes them less one-dimensional offensively.

Final Thoughts
The home team in the annual NFL kickoff game is typically a good bet and I think the Philadelphia Eagles are a good bet here. Philly is one of the few teams in the league that has been able to be more physical than the Cowboys’ offensive line. I also expect some rust from Dak Prescott in his first competitive action in quite some time. As a Giants fan, I’d like to see both teams lose somehow. But Philly will celebrate their championship, a win, and a cover on Thursday night.
