Leif Smerud Steps Down as Crystal Palace Women’s Manager Following WSL Relegation
Leif Smerud has departed his position as manager of Crystal Palace Women after just two months in charge, following the club’s relegation from the Women’s Super League.
Appointed on March 1, the 48-year-old Norwegian oversaw only nine matches across all competitions. During his short tenure, Palace managed one win, one draw, and suffered seven defeats. The team’s final match of the season ended in a 5-2 loss away to Manchester City, sealing a disappointing campaign.
Reflecting on his brief spell at the club, Smerud commented, “We didn’t get the outcome we hoped for.”
His exit marks the end of a challenging chapter for Palace, who now face the task of rebuilding in the Championship.
