As training camp begins, the Dallas Cowboys are facing unexpected challenges. Hopes for a lucrative, long-term deal with star pass rusher Micah Parsons have hit a snag.
After a lengthy and frustrating negotiation process, Parsons has had enough and officially requested a trade this week, reported by ESPN.
“Yes, I wanted to be here,” Parsons wrote. “I did everything I could to show I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play for the best fans in sports and revive America’s team, a team my dad and I cheered for in Harrisburg, PA.
“Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here. I no longer want closed-door negotiations without my agent. I’m tired of shots taken at me for injuries sustained while playing hard for the organization, our fans, and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread in the media about me. I stayed quiet in hopes of getting something done.”
Although Parsons seemed patient, the star defensive end has reached his limit and made it public on social media, casting a shadow on the storied franchise.
The situation’s future is uncertain. The Cowboys may decide to meet Parsons’ demands to keep him or be forced to trade him.
