Connecticut House of Representatives unanimously passes SB 1235, banning dual-currency sweepstakes gaming. The bill now awaits Governor Ned Lamont’s signature. If signed into law, it will take effect on Oct. 1, 2025. The legislation prohibits unlicensed online casino gaming or sports wagering but allows grocery chains to run certain sweepstakes related to grocery sales. Connecticut follows Louisiana, Montana, and Nevada in enacting such legislation. Simultaneously, Louisiana’s House approved SB 181, banning dual-currency sweepstakes gaming with fines up to $100,000 for violations. The bill bans sweepstakes resembling casino-style gaming, lottery games, and sports betting.
