The Washington Commanders experienced a downturn in 2025 after previously making it to the NFC Championship Game, falling short of the playoffs. Injuries were a major issue, particularly with Jayden Daniels missing most of the season. As a response, the Commanders decided to implement changes to reorient the team positively.
One such change was the replacement of the offensive coordinator, with David Blough coming in to fill the role following Kliff Kingsbury’s departure to the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Dan Quinn expressed optimism that this change might unlock more potential in Daniels in his third season.
“Jayden’s a big part of our thinking in all the things we do,” Quinn explained. “He wasn’t a part of the staff selection, but he drives a lot of the thinking and how we can feature him and where it goes. Having the ability to connect with him, that’s certainly a big deal for us. It wasn’t the deciding factor, but it certainly was a good factor.”
Washington leans heavily on Daniels as he has proven to be impactful when healthy. In his impressive rookie year, he recorded 3,568 passing yards with 25 touchdowns and accumulated 891 rushing yards with six touchdowns.
His consistent performance led the Commanders to a 12-5 record and an NFC Championship Game appearance. Daniels also shone in the postseason with 822 passing yards, five touchdowns, 135 rushing yards, and a touchdown.
Only time will reveal if this coaching adjustment will help elevate Daniels to a higher level.
