EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — Jobe Bellingham will not start in Borussia Dortmund’s match against Fluminense on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium in their Group F opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Dortmund manager Niko Kovac revealed that the 19-year-old English midfielder, who recently joined the team, needs more time to adapt to their processes and principles. Kovac also emphasized the importance of prioritizing players who have performed well in recent Bundesliga games.
Bellingham recently signed from Sunderland for $38 million, setting a record fee for the Premier League club. His brother Jude Bellingham previously spent three years at Dortmund before moving to Real Madrid. Known for his versatility, Jobe Bellingham scored four goals and provided three assists in 40 games for Sunderland in the 2024-25 season, contributing significantly to their promotion. In Dortmund, he is expected to play as both a deeper No. 8 and a dynamic No. 10.
Although not in the starting lineup, Bellingham is anticipated to make his debut as a substitute against Fluminense, with kick-off scheduled for noon ET.
