In a thrilling finish, goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scored with a header in the 98th minute as Benfica triumphed 4-2 over Real Madrid, earning a spot in the Champions League knockout stage on Wednesday and preventing their opponents from automatically qualifying for the last 16.
Despite leading 3-2 and facing elimination, Benfica secured the result they needed when Trubin connected with a free-kick in the dying moments, advancing to the playoff round based on goal difference.
