Cam Schlittler of the New York Yankees is set to make his Major League Baseball debut as a starting pitcher on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners. This announcement was made by manager Aaron Boone on the Talkin’ Yanks podcast. The 24-year-old right-hander is expected to bring stability to a Yankees rotation plagued by injuries, notably Clarke Schmidt requiring Tommy John surgery and Gerrit Cole missing the entire year with the same procedure. Schlittler began the season with Double-A Somerset, boasting a 4-5 record and a 2.38 ERA in ten games, and was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a 3.80 ERA across five starts. Known for his impressive strikeout numbers, he has tallied 99 strikeouts in 76.2 innings. While more experienced pitchers like Carlos Carrasco and Allan Winans are available at Triple-A, they have struggled at the MLB level this season, leading the Yankees to give Schlittler an opportunity. The team hopes this move will invigorate their pitching lineup, which has been allowing 7.8 runs per game over the last nine games.
