Though it wasn’t Tony Bloom’s best week at Ascot, the Brighton owner found solace in securing another signing for his team before the summer solstice.
With the Italy Under-21 defender Diego Coppola arriving on the south coast and Lake Forest finishing fifth in the Queen Anne Stakes, Brighton’s purchases reached three. The club is expected to announce soon that Olivier Boscagli will join on a free from PSV Eindhoven. Along with Coppola from Verona, Sunderland’s 19-year-old playoff hero Tommy Watson was acquired for £10m, and Greece Under-21 striker Charalampos Kostoulas for £30m.
