BetMGM, a leading name in online gaming and sports betting, has revised its terms of service to include explicit rules against athlete harassment. This decision is part of a wider effort to combat harassment tied to betting activities.
The update aims to preserve the integrity of sports, with BetMGM now expressly prohibiting athlete harassment in its terms. Customers who engage in such behavior will face account suspension. Previously, the terms allowed account suspension for “any lawful reason” without specifically addressing athlete harassment. These changes emphasize BetMGM’s strict no-tolerance stance on mistreatment of sports figures.
The new rules address the growing issue of bettors harassing athletes after losing bets, a problem affecting both online platforms and live sports events.
Regulatory approval is required for the refreshed terms of service, BetMGM noted. Rhea Loney, BetMGM’s chief compliance officer, stressed the company’s dedication to maintaining sports integrity, stating their regulated environment helps in identifying and addressing misconduct. Confirmed cases of harassment will lead to decisive actions, including account suspension.
Barry Sanders, a football icon and BetMGM brand ambassador, supported the initiative, highlighting the importance of respect in professional sports. He commended BetMGM’s stand against harassment and its efforts to uphold integrity.
