Residents of Ontario now have a fresh option for engaging in online gaming and sports betting. BetMGM introduced the first sportsbook-branded gift cards in Canada. This initiative, made possible by a partnership with payment technology firm TAPPP, sets a new standard in the Canadian iGaming industry.
Ontario Players Can Now Top Up BetMGM Accounts Using Prepaid Cards from Local Retailers
The prepaid cards are available in over 2,500 stores across Ontario, making it easier for players to fund their BetMGM accounts. Customers can simply enter a unique PIN from the back of the card into their BetMGM account to instantly access their funds. In compliance with local regulations, there is a weekly deposit limit of CA$250 ($183) for using prepaid cards in the province.
Sandy Agarwal, TAPPP’s CEO, emphasized that introducing the program in Ontario marks a significant step for both companies. This move brings BetMGM’s retail gift cards to a new market and enhances accessibility for Canadian players. Agarwal also mentioned the company’s goal to broaden its payment solutions to meet the increasing demand in North America.
BetMGM and TAPPP Expand Successful Gift Card Program from US to Ontario Market
BetMGM and TAPPP have previously collaborated on a similar initiative. They launched the gift card program in the United States in 2021, and the cards are now available in 15 US states, boasting a 99% redemption rate, one of the highest in the industry.
Matt Prevost, BetMGM’s Chief Revenue Officer, underscored the importance of this launch for the company’s operations in Canada. He noted that Ontario remains a competitive and growing market for online gaming and sports betting. Prevost also stated that introducing gift cards would provide users with a more convenient way to fund their accounts, enhancing BetMGM’s presence in the region.
BetMGM, a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Entain Plc, is a notable entity in North America’s gaming sector. In Ontario, users can access online casino and sports betting services. The company highlights its commitment to promoting responsible gambling as it expands. Canadians can utilize tools like the GameSense program, integrated into BetMGM’s platform, which provides responsible gambling resources.
