In early September, Belgium initiated a six-year gambling program aimed at transforming the industry. This new strategy also saw significant appointments to the Kansspelcommissie (KSC), the official regulator for the gambling sector.
The regulator, established under the Gambling Act of 1999, has now partnered with DNS Belgium, the nation’s primary internet provider.
Starting December 15, the regulator will enhance efforts to identify and eliminate illegal gambling, aiming to protect players and ensure legal gambling channels.
The strategy, announced on the regulator’s website, involves targeting “.be” domains for websites offering unauthorized gambling.
The commission will also work to swiftly address platforms lacking a Belgian license.
According to the commission, this protocol is meant to improve procedures for removing illegal content online with DNS Belgium’s help.
A Commission-ordered study in June revealed that while most young adults choose licensed sites, many still visit illegal ones.
Gaming Commission inspectors finding illegal content on .be domain websites will notify DNS Belgium.
The provider will inform domain holders of term violations and may revoke their domain use rights, redirecting the domain to a warning page by the Commission des Jeux de Hasard (CJH).
The original site will no longer be accessible via the domain, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to consumer safety, player protection, and best oversight practices, with plans for upcoming enforcement tools.
