November 2015. The Allianz Arena, Munich. A decade ago, yet it feels like a lifetime for Arsenal in the Champions League.
That night, Arsène Wenger’s side suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, leading my Guardian colleague David Hytner to compare them to “the easy prey from the lower Bundesliga teams that Bayern regularly devour.” It matched Arsenal’s worst-ever result in Europe. Insultingly, Bayern repeated the thrashing the next season, not once but twice: 5-1 at home and 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
