Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis will not need surgery on his injured left hand after consulting with his doctor.
Davis is projected to be sidelined for at least six weeks to recover from ligament damage, targeting a return post-All-Star break this season.
The 32-year-old has missed much of the season, participating in only 20 games, where he averages 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds, along with 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks, shooting 50.6 percent from the field and 27.0 percent from three-point range.
The Mavericks have a 10-10 record when he plays and a 5-15 record without him. Dallas is reportedly reopening trade discussions for the 10-time All-Star as the trade deadline approaches next month.
He is in the first year of a three-year, $175.3 million extension, which includes a $62.7 million player option for the final year of the 2027-28 season.
While Davis is out due to injury, the Mavericks are reportedly renewing trade talks regarding him. He remains one of the league’s top big men, excelling as both a dominant defender and a strong scorer.
Dallas is in a rebuilding phase, focusing on assembling the best roster with promising rookie Cooper Flagg, who has proven himself in his brief time in the league. Flagg is seen as the franchise’s future, and if trading Davis enhances the team long-term, a new team could be in Davis’s near future.
