As long as the Premier League invests in its players and FIFA gives it superficial attention, the Africa Cup of Nations will always struggle to gain a foothold. While attitudes may have shifted somewhat, the tournament is still often viewed in England primarily for its impact on the Premier League. There will be the usual complaints about the timing of the tournament during the European season, but attempts by the Confederation of African Football to accommodate European clubs have been obstructed by FIFA and the increasingly congested schedule.
