Over the past year, the Hawks boast a 9-1 record (7-3 at the line) as the home favorite, while Carlton has gone 1-5 head-to-head and at the line as an away underdog. Hawthorn’s key to success is its defense, conceding just 64.8 points per game at home this season, the best in the league. In their overall games, they have allowed just 74.3 points on average. Carlton has seen 20 of its last 24 games go under the bookmaker’s total. This game will be played at the MCG, which has seen an average of 162.6 points per game this season. Carlton’s nine games at this venue averaged 148.4 total points, with eight of their nine games going under the total. Hawthorn has averaged 159.6 total points at the MCG, with six of their seven games going under the total. With Curnow returning to form and McKay potentially back, I will add some points to the 160.5 set by bookmakers. Additionally, I will back Carlton to keep the margin below 40.
