Uefa’s legal team is bracing for further action as a complicated and increasingly prevalent issue emerges once again.
In the waterfront offices at Uefa’s House of European Football in Nyon, the legal team is preparing for an inevitable trip to Lausanne. Following numerous internal discussions since Crystal Palace inadvertently posed the toughest challenge yet to Uefa’s multi-club ownership (MCO) rules by winning the FA Cup, it’s becoming evident that the final decision on the matter will likely rest with the court of arbitration for sport (Cas).
“We will soon understand if our MCO rules withstand scrutiny, as it seems we will inevitably go to Cas,” said a source at Uefa, resigned to the fact that the question of whether Palace can participate in next season’s Europa League will be decided by the Lausanne court.
