NFL Releases 2025-26 Schedule: 49ers Face Easiest Path, Giants Get the Toughest
The NFL’s highly anticipated 2025-26 season schedule has officially been released, giving fans an early gift ahead of preseason action. With several compelling matchups and storylines already beginning to emerge, one of the most intriguing details lies in the projected strength of schedule (SOS) for all 32 teams – and the San Francisco 49ers come out with the easiest slate, while the New York Giants are facing the toughest path.
49ers Enter 2025 with NFL’s Easiest Schedule
Despite making significant roster changes during the offseason, including the departures of key players like Deebo Samuel, Jordan Mason, Aaron Banks, Charvarius Ward, Dre Greenlaw, Javon Hargrave, and Talanoa Hufanga, the 49ers are set up favorably for 2025. Why? Because they have the easiest strength of schedule in the league.
San Francisco finished last in the NFC West last season, which earns them a trio of games against other bottom-ranked teams from 2024. Additionally, the NFC West is matched up this year with the AFC South and NFC South – two divisions widely regarded as the weakest in the league this season.
As a result, the 49ers’ 2025 schedule does not include games against any teams projected to win more than 9.5 games, avoiding high-powered opponents like the Ravens, Bills, Bengals, Lions, Chiefs, and Eagles. They’ll only face four teams with win totals set above 8.5 and get five games against teams forecasted to win 6.5 games or fewer.
49ers’ 2025 Regular Season Schedule Highlights
San Francisco opens its campaign on the road in Seattle. While the strength of their schedule is favorable overall, the early stretch could pose a challenge, with six of their first nine games taking place on the road.
Looking Back to Look Ahead
This isn’t the first time the 49ers have found themselves in this spot. After an injury-plagued 6-10 season in 2020, the team entered 2021 with the league’s easiest strength of schedule and took full advantage. They went 10-7, snuck into the playoffs, and battled their way to the NFC Championship, losing narrowly to the eventual Super Bowl-winning Rams.
This time around, they’ll be led by Brock Purdy at quarterback and Christian McCaffrey in the backfield—a duo that arguably surpasses the 2021 combination of Jimmy Garoppolo and Elijah Mitchell. Even without Samuel, the current offensive core might be more dangerous than previous iterations.

Giants Face Uphill Battle with NFL’s Toughest 2025 Schedule
While San Francisco gets a favorable path, the New York Giants find themselves on the opposite end of the spectrum. Already struggling over the past several seasons—managing more than six wins just once in the last eight years—the Giants now face the most daunting schedule in the NFL for 2025.
The NFC East remains one of the most competitive divisions in football, featuring the Super Bowl runner-up Eagles and the NFC runner-up Commanders. The Cowboys are also expected to bounce back after a down year. The Giants will have to navigate six games against those opponents.
Outside of the division, the schedule doesn’t get much easier. New York is also matched up against the high-powered AFC West as well as the NFC North—both divisions with legitimate playoff contenders. Even their fourth-place finish last year doesn’t help much, as it draws them into a Week 9 clash with the 49ers.
With a brutal 12-week opening stretch, it’s possible that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart could get a shot after the team’s Week 14 bye, depending on how the season unfolds.
