A 30-year-old crypto trader in Belarus is accused of using investor funds for gambling. He reportedly squandered over 1 million Belarusian rubles ($293,387) of investor money. Authorities believe he posed as a crypto expert, attracting victims via Telegram. He faces charges of large-scale fraud in a criminal case. The investigation continues, with the Investigative Committee seeking more victims. Ten victims have come forward.
Victim After Victim
His first client was a 37-year-old woman he met online in 2024. The investment turned out to be a scam, and despite initial promises, the money vanished. He convinced her to invest more, claiming she would recover her funds, unknowingly supporting his gambling. To manage mounting debts, he approached another person online, a 26-year-old, using the same scheme promising high returns. During interrogation, he confessed to hoping for casino wins to repay investors. He scammed at least ten people, enticing them to invest in “crypto,” then used the funds to gamble or settle debts, always seeking new victims. He even had his girlfriend take a car loan to repay some debts. Authorities revealed he had only one successful investment throughout this period.
