City committee executives for the upcoming World Cup expressed concerns on Monday regarding the “uncertainty” created by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) raids as they prepare for a significant number of international visitors.

Next year’s World Cup, co-hosted with Canada and Mexico, will be held across 11 US cities and is expected to attract over five million visitors during the 40-day event. However, slow visa processing for several countries, travel bans (including for newly qualified Iran), and raids intended to deport undocumented immigrants have resulted in the government arresting and deporting visa holders, permanent residents, and even citizens.
